It pours every so slightly hazy pale gold. The head is not quite as lively or large as other beers I have had in this style, but it is quite persistent, forming a cap and clinging to the glass like mad.
Clean pilsner malt smell, slight bready sweetness. It takes a few whiffs to find but there is a mild citrus orange maybe tangerine note. Mildly hopped in the noble family, slightly floral, mildly spicy. Very, very tame.
The taste hits quick and the aftertaste features the aromatics. Slightly sweet, clean malt. Then the citrus shows up along with a spicy peppery flavor that both linger - more of a sensation of the aromatics layering over the beer and then hanging on well into the aftertaste.
It's light on the feel, an appropriate level of carbonation, and fairly noticeable bitterness.
I really enjoy supporting local (Tilted Barn is about 40 minutes away) when they make good products. This is a good beer that delivers what it should. It is not as close to a pilsner as some others I have had in this style, but that's fine. I think the hops could be a bit more assertive and that would round out this beer a bit better. The smell was not strong at all with the aromatics coming out more in the taste - the smell didn't help set the table.
