Endangered species No. 11 from Wicklow Wolf, so this is a one off brew again. As No. 13 (Apex Tiramisu) was my favourite beer of 2020, oh boy, am I excited to try this? F*ck yeah!!!
Top: forms two inches of creamy, tan head, slow retention into one ring of lacing around the glass which slowly fades away.
Colour: jet black in the glass, deep ruby colour when pouring against a light source.
Smell: WOW. Again. Dominant Swiss chocolate, some light vanilla and hints of candy, sweet roasted malts. So intense, so many details! Fantastic!
Taste: follows the nose, roasted malts, raw cocoa powder, dark chocolate, with some berry fruitiness at the back. Nice and smooth mouthfeel (although the Tiramisu one was even smoother), but it screams for a bit bigger body (which is medium, maybe more oatmeal should go into it?), light carbonation. It feels strong and it IS strong at 8% ABV, one at a time. Semi-dry, dark chocolate-y finish with some hoppy bitterness showing up at last. Long lasting aftertaste. Serve at 12-15 degrees (Celsius) for best flavour intensity and maximum scent. My tip: use red wine/tulip glass to keep that gorgeous smell concentrated.
Summary: this brew is an other great creation from Wicklow Wolf, highly enjoyable. I cannot believe they only make one batch of these unique beers. Why?! The world needs to taste these, it’s just unfair to brew all these interesting beers only for us, in Ireland and even for us, for a super limited time.
I liked this a lot, although the Apex Tiramisu was a bit better. Definitely will buy more until it runs out.

look: three finger beige coloured head with decent retention, beer is jet black in the glass no light bleeding through at all.
smell: very sweet smelling, lot of marshmallow, lot of milk chocolate, some roasted smokey malt, s’mores i suppose, toffee and fudge, hint of treacle, hint of cherry, nice.
taste: that is gorgeous, way more malt character than on the nose, big roasted smokey unami malt flavour, quite sweet but not as candy sweet as the nose, marshmallow, fudge, toffee, caramel, milk chocolate, little bit of dark chocolate, hint of molasses and treacle, lightly to moderately bitter on the finish, some lingering malty smokey flavour on the finish, very nice.
feel: medium bodied, light to medium carbonation, creamy, not too thick though, some lingering bitterness on the back of the tongue, bit of alcohol warming
overall: an interesting stout, nice balance of sweet and malty flavours, good stuff.
