An other “Endangered species” (No. 10) from Wicklow Wolf. I have high hopes for this one, as anything I’ve tried before from this series turned out to be from very good to truly excellent.
So it’s a Kveik NEIPA, with a ton of Citra, Mosaic and El Dorado hops, served in a 440 ml can and being 6.4% ABV.
Top: forms an inch of white, slightly soapy head, disappears in a minute and leaving a smaller patch of lacing in the middle with a thin ring around the inside of the glass. I know I’ve a bit of a fetish for lovely frothy heads, but also know NEIPAs don’t usually excel on that field.
Colour: pear/peach juice, haziness is maxed out, as it’s a NEIPA, so it’s exactly what was expected.
Smell: fruity; mostly peach and grapefruit with a hint of sweet malts. Smooth, juicy, inviting.
Taste: refreshing, juicy, tangly. A peppery feel with champagne-like carbonation (med+), which makes the body feel slightly lighter then what it really is (med+). Dry finish, leaving the mouth with a pure grapefruit aftertaste with all of its notes (some bitterness, some spiciness, some sourness). Notes: lime, grapefruit, freshly ground white pepper.
Summary: a quite enjoyable one again from WW. Although, I have to admit, I’m getting a bit tired of NEIPAs, but still, this one is a great example, it’s worthy of showing to people who are new to the genre. Not sweet, not too much of Citra, no Converse-sole taste. Fresh as it comes. And it’s rather dangerous too, it isn’t a weak one and feels almost too easy to drink. Good job, although this is the least exciting from WW to me, lately.
