Copenhagen 7/5 2026. 44 cl can from Meny, Borups Allé, Frb. F. Purple can with the usual silhouette of a wolf In different shades of purple.

Pours opaques dark brown with a small off-white head. Settles as a thin rim of foam running along the sides of the glass. Almost no lacing.

Aroma is fairly intense with a sweet and sugary odor mingling with sourish and earthy notes. Dark roasted malts, brown sugar, vanilla and caramel. Whiff of tart berries. Leather and coffee grounds. Not too boozy.

Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.

Flavor is fairly intense with a rather strong sweetness followed and balanced by a strong bitterness. Aftertaste is bitter and a little rough. Lingers for a while. Finish is semi-dry with a touch of alcohol. .

Potent and not as sweet as expected.

 

Inspired by the Italian dessert "affogato", this imperial stout is a blend of coffee, vanilla and lactose. It's a combination that just about works, though the bitterness of the coffee slightly overpowers the vanilla to my liking. Nonetheless a decent and interesting take on the style.
