a really fun beer, called a dutch kuyt in terms of style, something i had to look up online to learn is a high oat style (close to 50%!) that was popular in the netherlands in the 1400s and 1500s, pretty cool, i thought i knew all the beer styles, turns out there is always more to learn! a bronze colored beer just loaded with oats, but nice and mellow in taste and abv, this is really clever stuff. there must obviously be some malted oats in here, but it has a body like some flaked type oats are here too, not at all starchy or heavy, but smooth and almost creamy for something this light, the texture is as compelling as the flavor, with nice carbonation, really soft edges, and a silky feel going down, really rad. the oats are highly evident here. the flavor is good, but light, kind of bready without being doughy nor cooked to me, more of an agricultural vibe, rustic for being this well cleaned up, cereal forward, biscuits and flour and such. there is very little hop or yeast character to this, but its not one dimensional either, kind of tough to place really, and definitely appreciable as something out of the ordinary, even in its simplicity. i really enjoyed this as a mellow sipper and sort of conversation piece of a beer. never heard of this style before, and will jump on it next time i see one. this beer taught me something new!
