Appearance This came out a beautiful dark brown, almost black, with a huge, monster head that was dark brown as well and seemed to say around forever.
Smell The malts are rich with a good amount of milky sweetness. The oatmeal is sweet but faint, understated in the best of ways.
Taste The malts here are very dark and carry more sweetness than the straight on-tap version. This is most likely due to temperature variation. The oatmeal comes out more and is delicious. Why hasnt Quaker Oats thought of this?
Mouthfeel The mouthfeel on-cask is unbelievable. It is so smooth and pleasantly foamy it literally makes your mouth water. Theres a nice, easy bitterness here that doesnt slap the drinker in any way.
Drinkability This Oatmeal Stout was good on-tap, but boy oh boy did it find a home in the cask. I never thought Id want to session an Oatmeal Stout, but I sure could have drank this all night long. In fact, my brother-in-law who was with me, well, thats exactly what he did.
