I lived in Poland for over 2 years and never saw this...anyway found in Kaufland and it's mega cheap, so will take the price into account for the overall score. Unpasteurised, great!
5.7% instead of the usual 5 or less, great! And no hop extract. So far, great. Let's open it.
Can design is a little boring. Some quite irregular large bubbles in the head. Quite a pale colour, but good effervescence and it seems alive. Aroma is slightly sweet malt with very faint, refreshing hops and a little skunk. Head stays up for at least 5 minutes. So looks pretty good overall, as most pasteurized heads disappear in a minute.
Mouth feel has some complexity. The taste evolves as you drink it and swirl it on the tongue. Hops taste dominates over the malt, which I like. The flavour is mostly green olives, sweet tea biscuits (sorry you will only understand if you are English) and interesting kind of unique hoppiness that I cannot really describe...kind of forest fruit peels ; ) Not that forest fruits have peels, but if they did, this is how the hops taste.
The hops are really complex. They give an amazing sensation in the mouth and on the tongue. It's different from Czech and German.
Because it's unpasteurized, it's still alive and all of the natural yeasties, enzymes and bacteria, with the health benefits of the hops, combine to actually give you nutrition and a high. Though usually canning things used heat, so I'm not sure they do this. But let's give them the benefit of the doubt.
Because of the price and the can design, I was expecting this to be fairly terrible, as every other beer within this price range certainly is. This was one of the cheapest beers in Kaufland. Relevant to price, it's by far the best beer in Kaufland. So it gets a 4.75 overall rating.
Very very impressed with this. Probably if it was pasteurized, the rating would be much lower. I know it's not a West Coast IPA or Westervelen 12, but as a budget pilsner in Kaufland, it's totally amazing. It tastes much more expensive than it is. Will try the others tomorrow ; ))
