Copenhagen 26/7 2023. 50 cl can from Edeka Center Bremen Hastedt, Pfalzburger Strasse, Bremen. Black can with a logo in gold and a red “9%” in center. To keep the important top of mind.
Pours clear amber with a big white head. Stable. Settles as thin, almost transparent layer of foam. Crawling up the sides of the glass. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet malty odor mingling with a metallic sharp scent of alcohol. Sweet pale malts, honey, bread and cardboard. Grains and alcohol.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, almost flat texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a strong sweetness followed by a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweet. Lingers for a while. Finish is sweet malt and alcohol.
Pale strong brew - nothing more, nothing less.

karpackie black, my 1000th beer. normal karpackie was beer no.500, and it was planned even then for this beer to be no.1000. i tried it once at a party many years ago where several of my friends got wiped out by its strength, although they all noted that it didn’t taste as bad as you would think. i’m inclined to agree with them, as cheap strong lagers go, it’s far from the worst. it does have a slight nail varnish remover quality to it, but that’s along side some decent brown bread malt flavours, caramel, and a pleasant low to medium bitterness finish, medium bodied with medium to high carbonation, quite drinkable but it defintley shows it’s strength, it’s a boozy 9%er. all in all, not that bad. here’s to another 1000 beers!

Poured from fridge. Pours a golden yellow with good head. For a 9% beer, the nose is surprisingly subtle. Getting wheat and a bit of lemon. Some grass and subtle nutty notes. Taste is interesting. It has a stinging bitterness to it, but some nice caramel, wheat, bread, and light cherry notes. It's a bit odd, and definitely not a typical lager. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, and the alcohol is well hidden. Not bad.
