From the growler via the brewery. This very nice dubbel pours a
red tinged lightly murky brown with a nice head of white foam that subsides
to a thick ring, thin light layer, and showcases some light soapy lacing. Nose of
earthy malts, a touch of biscuit, a touch of floral hops, and a dash of sweet floral
honey. Flavors follow but exceed by presentation with a earthy tone to the fore
and a moderate biscuit note throughout with touches of raisin and floral honey
notes dashed with brown sugar and slight herbal hop notes on the rear giving
balance to an already balanced presentation. Very nice mouth feel; medium
body, medium light carbonation that is subtly lively and active from the yeast,
and a faintly dry finish.
Exceptional quality from a new to me brewery that delivers on the front of taste
and balance.
Excellence!
Cheers!

Hanging their hat on the Belgian styles, the Ethereal brewers now dip their toes into the Abbey waters. And the character of their Asmodeus Belgian dubbel ale is a taste straight out of the monastery.
It's rusty browns and reds carry a translucent glow and a somewhat mysterious appearance. Above which builds a creamy and lush sheet of foam. Just shy of the rocky effervescence of those Belgian versions, its tantilizing scent is juicy and robust- chocked full of the floral, nutty, steely-sweet fruity and spicy perfume that the style deserves. Its malt-forward taste is of dry caramel, cashew, honey and hard candy before its complex yeasty goodness set in.
As the sweetness relaxes a bit, the earthen fruits of dates, figs, plums, cherries, apples and berries seem of fruitcake and cobbler as its succulent malt and fruit intertwine across the middle. Soft rebuttal of clove, peppercorn, cinnamon and nutmeg simmer underneath and balance the fruit while breaking up the lingering malt into a drinkable and profound sipping session.
Its finish is malty-dry and medium-full as the lasting malt flavors remain nutty and caramelized. Supple complexity of red wine casts a cabernet vinous acidity to assist the alcohol warmth and peppery spices in a complex series of flavor that's rich with culinary art.
