Not to be confused with Mediocre Omega Chicken or Ultra Alpha Chicken, Ethereal's "Tap 0" experimental ale is powerfully complex yet deceptively smooth, making it a dangerous session for this big lush.
Its faintly hazed goldenrod hues highlight its gently streaming carbonation while shedding an evenly coated sheet of foam that skirts the edges. Its juicy aromas are fruit with a host of orchard and citrus varieties and a peppery tinge to tickle the nose. Rich malt sweetness glosses over the tongue with its first vibrantly carbonated sip. Honey, cookie dough and floral honeysuckle bounce off the tongue with the playful acidity of chardonnay.
Coursing the middle palate, the flavors bloom- bringing a host of fruit nuances to span oranges, apples, melon, papaya, kiwi and pawpaw. Not to be overshadowed, the spicy rebuttal is firm with its own zest of white pepper, clove, vanilla and faint curry. Gaining prominence late, the spice of alcohol gives the beer a rosy solvent taste for added complexity and power.
Creamy but with a sturdy carbonated bounce, the ale is lively bringing its otherwise fullish body into a more medium and moderate realm. As the light cakey sweetness lingers on the palate, its effervescent chardonnay tartness and dryness eventually frame the final impression as it's alcohol spice shines bright in the beer's afterglow.
