Beautifully woven into an ale that shares stages between London porter and brown ale, the fresh-brewed coffee flavor that layers on top not only shifts the taste to the java bean but it makes the ale a better beer than what it would have been without the coffee additions.
Lusciously brown and softly translucent, the dark ale even crowns with fresh-pressed mocha swirls. Its deep and sultry aroams are earthy with toasted bread, toffee, chocolate, coffee and a host of candied and roasted nuts. Bittersweet flavors again are nutty and modestly sweet although dominated by rising coffee presence.
With full saturation of taste in full effect, the nuttier, stemmy and woodsy qualities of complex columbian and kona blends seem soft, careful to not conflict with moderate tone of the brown ale underneath. As the toffee and seared-in caramel flavors begin to lift, the coffee additions become bolder and eventually sieze the final taste. But not without the soft biscuit, buttery and chocolate flavors that the ale lays in its tracks.
Medium-full on the palate, again its porter-brown straddle comes back into effect- trailing with those soft coffee, nutty and chocolate flavors that were suggestive in scent. Smooth bitterness and lightly root-ish, the beer's finish is long and robust
