Just like the malaise of late summer, late winter experiences the same. So the same guava fruit and Mosaic hops that offset the discontent of hot weather does much the same with cool weather, just in elevated alcohol form and a richer body.
Double Dog Days arrives with a foggy, peachy tone, seemingly taupe to the eye. Its creamy white froth casts a webbing pattern before a juicy taste of tart fruit a light funkiness racy acidity enlivens the nose while its first sip carries a bounce like pop-rocks candy once again.
A sweetness of taffy and cream candy drifts away and allows the funky-fresh fruit and succinct sourness to take command of the middle palate. Leathery citrus- lemon, lime, grapefruit, tangerine carry a radiant and juicy citrus and tropical taste along with a sense of dried peel. Strong guava overtones takes the mind to melon, agave and an alluring taste of peach margaritas. Bitterness and sourness weave together for a tactile tandem of palate sensations that highlight the beer's fruit and herb dominance with green tea and hemp.
Clean, crisp and refreshing, the beer is light and playfully acidic. An after-palate of light fermented funk chases the cannabis-laden hops into a medium-short but complex finish. Double Dog Days shows tremendous complexity in a remarkably effortless session that's slightly heftier than its summer counterpart.
