Slamming out a tropical sour ale, Ethereal brewers aren't playing games. Their passionfruit, orange and guava (POG) sour ale takes the tastebuds on a tropical vacation for a playful interactions with the palate. Ok, maybe they're playing games a little.
Slammer Sour pours with a light lemony haze before topping off with a spritzy, frothy foam stance. As the froth settles, the scent is a bright and tangy bouquet of tropical fruit, citrus, cider, wine and whimsy as a suggestions of tropical cocktails come to mind. Supple sweetness strikes first as a thin foundation of wafer, honeysuckle and taffy being laid.
But the story of the beer is the fruit additions and the sourness underneath. Tangy and succulent, the tropical fruit of passionfruit and guava provide a somewhat exotic palate cleansing taste while the orange adds its own racy tartness. Underneath, the natural fermentae gives a support of lime, lemon, gooseberry, green apple and white wine. Sour but managable, the beer's balance tilts heavily toward the tart but with lighter aspects of herbal bitterness and light tannins.
Medium light on the palate, Slammer finishes fruity, juicy and dry with a brief echo of damp burlap in a slight earthy linger. It's a perfect thirst quencher for warmer weather or a temporary vacation for the tastebuds any other time of year.
