Getting ahead of the heat is a great idea, and the generous splash of cucumber and lime on a traditional German-styled wheat ale has Ethereal Brewing with a great start.
Pouring cloudy and golden straw, Crushcumber rises with a bubbly and airy froth, and a bright and tangy scent that circulates around citrus, fragrant herbs, melon, wine and a gentle drift of sea air. Scantly sweet, the early palate is subtle with sourdough, agave and wafer.
The rise of cucumber comes quick but does so with more of a honeydew, basil and green tea sensibility. Decorated with lime and the sour ale's underpinnings of lemon, green apple, white grape and gooseberry is nearly complete. Trending slightly margarita-like, the taste develops into a salted cucumber finish with a brisk tartness and a refreshingly juicy-dry mouthfeel.
Crisp, refreshing and mostly clean, the beer's light salinity keeps the session juicy and rounded and seems to amplify the cucumber over that of citrus for a curiously appealing thirst quencher that you didn't know you needed.
