Not sure why anyone is ever afraid of the dark. Dark is calm, dark is slow, dark is patient. Darkness is a time to recharge and rest up. Everyone should claim the dark, but alas...
Most brewers won't embrace the dark but Ethereal's Unclaimed Night shows no reservation with a very dark coffee-black pour but a scent that's citrus and bright in juxtaposition. As its tall tarnish froth falls, the early flavors of caramel, coffee and roast sets a savory, slightly scorched and sweeter tone of honey and toasted granola. The boldness of hops rises to prominence with the taste of grapefruit and orange peel with seared and smoked edges. Trailing sweetness leads to a bitter finish of peppery resins, moderate char and burnt pine needles.
Medium bodied and daringly refreshing for dark ale, the black IPA isn't simply a hoppy porter, but its an IPA first and foremost- bitter, fruity, crisp and roasty refreshing.
