Light and robust are two adjectives that rarely share the stage together. But the brewers of Ethereal seems to have figured it out. layering a light German-styled lager with smoke does just the trick.
Pouring a pale and clear straw, Oh Helles immediately shows its muscle as a waft of fragrant smoke carries above a light and lofty froth. Underneath it all lies hints of light bread and honeysuckle before the crisp and wafer-like malts showa slim sweetness early on the palate. Developing into a dry malt display allows the hops to develop from floral to slight fruitiness and then to a grassy finish of lemongrass, mint and bitter greens. All the while the session drapes in an aura of smoke that elevates the tate to rauchbier status with a longer after palate of smoke than would have thought.
It's a fun but light beer that begs for smoked wings.
