Clear, amber color with dense, small-bubble carbonation; thick, white head, frothy, long-lasting, and sporting spidery fingers and blotches of foam sticking to the glass. Classic pine resin scent; slight note of fruity esters; light malt presence. Delicate malt base supporting a relatively bold hop bitterness; herbal hop flavor with a touch of black pepper. Medium body; crisp and dry on the palate.
If anything, Fossil Craft Beer have upped their game with this long-time beer of theirs. It's pretty straightforward in execution, presentation, and taste, and definitely a great beer if one is looking for an old-school west coast-style India pale ale.
ABV: 6.5%; pouring temperature: 42 °F; crowler data: 09/03/24

On tap at the brewery...
Hazy, honey-colored body; initially thick head that dwindles to a thin yet clinging presence. Malty fragrance more so than a hop dominated scent. The flavor has excellent hop bitterness with just the right amount of malt juiciness. Medium body with a prickly, carbonated tingle on the palate; mostly dry finish.
A clean tasting beer with a strong hop bitterness. The bitterness blends well with a mild, grainy malt juiciness. I'd rate this beer up there with some of the big-boy west coast American IPAs...
Late note: tried again 1/16/15 with ratings of 3.75 3.75 3.75 4.0 with an overall of 3.75. One of the main differences was in the aroma: more pine resin and citrus this time.
