Pours a clear amber color. The head is a finger high and white in shade. While retention is not very impressive, it does leave behind thin sheets of lacing on the glass.
This is supposed to be a Citranova, but those hops aren't popping up very well. I do pick up light melon and passion fruit in fairness, and these varying tropical fruits seemingly pop up better as it opens up. I'm more forgiving of the subtlety considering it's only 4.5%. There are also touches of caramel and bread lurking behind. Fairly basic, but solid enough.
I don't think this tastes very hoppy. It starts off faintly tropical, before trailing off into a light grassy sensation. Having said that, I actually love the usage of the malts here, as it gives this beer nice finishing flavors of biscuit, cinnamon, orange marmalade, and sugar cookie. Though it lacks notable estery qualities, it does strike me as very English in its approach. All in all, it's quite good, balanced nicely, and even a little complex.
This beer does a good job of hiding the fact it's 4.5%. It's not overly dry or watery, and even has a bit of heft on the palate. It's something you could session instead of flat-out chug, simply put. Carbonation is medium, lacking the assertive fizz of other session ales.
Re-align your expectations for this one. This will hardly give Watch Me Disappear or Zombie Dust any Citra-riffic fits, but it's a tasty and balanced session ale taken in a vacuum. I'm glad I bought a sixer of this stuff, actually...
3.63/5: Delicious, but not a nova
