Not to be confused with the version brewed by Oranjeboom (ostensibly only prior to 2005).
330ml brown glass bottle purchased at a Big C supermarket in Hue, Vietnam for 30000 VND.
7.20% ABV. Brewed with hop extract. Best before: 08.01.2018. Stout. United Dutch Breweries, Breda, Holland.
Aroma is of chocolate malt, caramel chews, and malted milk balls/Whoppers. I detect no overt hops. Suggests a beer with a shallow artificial flavour. Aromatic intensity is average for the style. No roasted barley is detectable.
Taste follows the aroma, with a chewy tootsie roll texture and a malted milk ball emphatic flavour profile. Simple, shallow, and artificial tasting, with weak chocolate malt providing the only recognizably genuine note.
Sticky, overly sweet, entirely unrefreshing, smooth, wet, syrupy. Quite off-putting. Deplorably executed and not fitting given the style. One would expect a coarse dry mouthfeel.
Amongst the worst attempts at a stout I've had this year. I'll finish the bottle with great difficulty. There's no redeeming attribute here, but at least it's not watery, metallic, or otherwise faulty. Nevertheless, this should be a strong pass for any drinker - casual and discerning alike.
Low D- (1.79) / AVOID
