Paris 31/3 2026. 50 cl can from CarreFour, Rue de Bercy, Paris 12e. Light blue can with poor old Atlas with the world upon his shoulders.
Pours clear yellow with a mid-sized white head. Stable. Settles as a uneven and lumpy layer of foam struggling to cover the surface of the beer. Substantial lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet odor of malt mingling with metallic alcohol and sour grains.
Low carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, almost flat texture.
Flavor is medium intense with a strong sweetness followed by y a moderately strong bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish with a boozy and metallic undertone. Lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dry.
Atlas seems a bit exhausted carrying a whole planet. So do I.

Notes via stream of consciousness: There are many variations of Atlas beer based on strength. This one is popular in Paris right now although I'm unsure why as there are better beers available at a lower price. I guess it has to do with the strength of whomever is selling and/or distributing it. It's poured for me a clear golden body that's got a bit of a brass sheen to it beneath a short head of bright white. I tried several times to bring the head up but to no avail. Fortunately it's held fairly well and I still have a thin but solid surface covering, and where the head has dropped there's some very nice lacing. The aroma is basic and fairly bland, displaying a generic "beer" aroma of malt and hops that combine as one fairly non-descript note. The flavor is better but not by much. There's some sweetish malt that's got some caramel to it, but there must be a good amount of adjunct in use as well (in this case corn) as it's not grainy. The hops are probably extract as well but it doesn't matter either way, they're only a secondary note to the apple, pear, and berry-like yeasty fruitiness. It's very firmly bitter though, and that shows in the finish, lingering beyond where the sweetish malt fades out. In the mouth it's medium-bodied and gently crisp-then-smooth. It's not horrific by any means, in fact there are no real faults to it, but neither is it a very balanced and smooth strong Euro lager. There are better choices out there.
