We were on a tour of the new River Rat Ale Trail this past weekend & I not only tasted this at the bar, but I was so enamored of it that I got a 32-fl. oz. growler to go!
The pour in both instances created a finger of soapy, tawny head with good retention. Color was Amber (SRM = > 7, < 9) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was very floral, evidence that it had been heavily dry-hopped. I seem to remember that owner/brewer Eric Kuijpers told me that he used Citra. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was both grassy and floral, light for an AIPA, but at 38 IBUs, it was designed that way. Finish was semi-dry to dry, but not really bitter enough to be considered outright dry. It had a flowery, lightly malty quality that would satisfy a hophead. Eric tells me that he will be continuing to tweak the recipe, so subsequent iterations may differ.
