So, I will preface this by saying that FBC is a sentimental favorite. I get excited when they do anything new. The promise of a Sorachi hopped Saison had my mouth watering and this does not disappoint. The spice and dryness of the Saison shines through, making this a very satisfying new brew.

650ml bottle - a Saison-styled IPA (also with a bit of rye malt), hopped with 'heaps' of Sorachi Ace and Hallertau.

This beer pours a slightly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with four fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent dissipating cloud form lace around the glass as it slowly sinks away.

It smells of bready and doughy cereal malt, some mint-like spiciness, rye crackers, a musty yeastiness, faint citrus esters, and some plain earthy, weedy, and dead floral hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, earthy yeast, a further spicy rye character, some mixed mint and black peppercorn spiciness, generic domestic citrus rind, and more understated leafy, herbal, and floral 'verdant' hoppiness.

The carbonation is fairly restrained in its banal frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and more or less smooth, with a subtle airy creaminess evolving as things warm up a tad around here. It finishes off-dry, the yeasty malt character most predominant in its lingering stature.

Overall - this is an interesting example of this melding of genres, additionally complicated by the employment of some rather disparate old and new world hops. Not really IPA-like, more of a strangely hopped Saison, but worth checking out if that's your sort of thing.
