Earthbound Brewing

 

 

My wife and I visited this brewery in their new location...an historic building that was the home of the 'Cherokee Brewery' in the 19th century. The highlight of the visit was a tour of the old lagering cellar, which is about 40 feet below street level. It was an incredible and historic tour. The tap room is open, with a hanging loft for extra seating. The beer is unique, interesting, and sometimes experimental. The staff was friendly. We didn't try any food, but it looks like they have light snacks. Worth a visit, especially for the tour.

 

these guys are in the process of a move down the street, an expansion, and the opening of a food aspect to their taproom experience, but i love it where it is now, and had a great time in here this week. the space is cool, its long and narrow, dim lit, a nice respite from the bright sun and heat of the street. super narrow, like a long hallway, with some really neat wood tables and stump seats, a small natural edge wood bar with only a handful of seats at it, and something like eight beers on tap, maybe ten, but they are so inventive, it blew my mind. they had some insane styles in here, a chicken and waffles blonde ale with toasted fenugreek seeds, smoked paprika, and salt. they had a rhubarb gruit, a neat braggot, and some cool belgian and hoppy styles as well, super inspired beers, small batchy, and honestly a lot better than expected. they were far more compelling than the handful of flavors they have available for distribution in the area, more interesting and more hands on it seems, i really liked what i drank in here, and think they are doing something really unique with their beers, no doubt about it. the dude working the bar was mellow and cool and really knew his stuff, i always appreciate enthusiasm and knowledge in these places. ive been to a fair few breweries here in saint louis now, and this is near the top of my list. i hope they keep up the vibe and the innovation in the new space. i would absolutely recommend this place, it rules. some of the most interesting beers in town too!

Got in first thing on a Sunday morning and got to chat with one of the owners at the bar for a bit. Smaller space but a good selection of beers, everything we had was tasty. The people working here are very passionate about beer.

 

The people are great! It's cool to meet the guys who make the beer. The place is nice, as long as there isn't a bus tour or there are more than 4 people are at the bar. There are something like 10 barstool sat a 12 foot bar. It's way too cramped, and if you're not in a group the tables are weird. The beer is substandard, and it seems like the regulars come in to hang out and drink stag or anything that is high alcohol content, but not that tastes good. I waited a year to allow them to work on recipes and make some better beers. Hopefully 2016 makes some better brews.
