Good grief! The Great Punkin' Spice is finally here! This Imperial Brown Ale is chocked full of real pumpkin, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, vanilla and lactose! Sweet, creamy and as basic as they get!

16ox can from Tavour. Dark amber pour with a thin beige head. Aroma is sweet with savory fall spice. Taste features some nice dark caramel maltsalong withe cinnamon and allspice.

The Great Punkin' Spice has a medium, beige head and a dark, orange-brown appearance, with moderate lacing. The aroma is of baking spices and dark bread crust. The flavor is of a huge blend of pumpkin pie spices and underlying sweet bread. The Great Punkin' Spice's body is light to medium, with a semi-dry finish.

There is truth (sometimes) in advertising - this pumpkin brew definitely has some spice to it...

...I was really impressed with its look and smell - both very, very appealing. Mouthfeel was medium-bodied, the taste followed pretty much along what the nose first noted, and overall, its a damn solid instance of the style. I will definitely be on the lookout for more of these this year and next.

Look – Deep mahogany color bordering on almost black with two fingers of off-shite/yellowish head. Dark amber and red on the edges when held to the light. Beautiful-looking beer.

Aroma – Pumpkin spice and cinnamon for days. Lots of brown sugar which dominates at times and just a pinch of actual pumpkin rounds this out.

Taste – I know it’s not an ingredient, but I can’t help but shake this sweet, maple syrup flavor. Maybe it’s the combo of the lactose, vanilla, and brown sugar, but in any case, I dig it. The more I drink, the more vanilla that comes through and it becomes the dominant flavor here. Like the nose, actual pumpkin is hard to find, but it appears the goal was more of a pumpkin spice beverage rather than a pumpkin beer, and in that regard, this succeeds.

Mouthfeel – Almost as thick as an imperial porter and similarly has a smooth, velvety body. At 8%, the alcohol is completely hidden. A lot of sweetness doesn’t make it one to absolutely crush, but that wasn’t the goal on this one. It’s meant to sip on a cool Fall night.

Overall – Great use of the brown ale as a base and the overload of vanilla got my engine purrin’. Big cinnamon and brown sugar with just enough pumpkin to boot. Stellar pumpkin beer right here.

A: The beer is very dark brown in color - it's black when viewed from afar but is brownish red when held up to a bright light, which also reveals a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a quarter finger high beige head that quickly settled down, leaving a narrow collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of pumpkin and pumpkin spices are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell but is a little more rounded out with additional notes of vanilla and hints of sweetness. No alcohol is perceptible.
M: It feels a bit shy of being medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This brown ale makes for a very nice autumn treat and provides nice aromas and flavors of pumpkins and pumpkin spices. The thing that impressed me most about this beer was how well it hid any traces of alcohol from the taste.

Honestly, to me, not one of the better pumpkin selections out there. Hazy brown, no head on my pour. Mouth feel wet. Taste is average compared to so many pumpkin beer’s within my reach. Not worth the price- pretty high for a 4 pack of 16’s. I only purchased one for about the price at the pub for a normal beer.

Pumpkin imperial brown ale with pumpkin, cinnamon, pumpkin spice, vanilla and lactose. This is pretty tasty, usually don’t love pumpkin spice things but this one adds a bit to the usual brown ale flavor.
