A Brewing Conversations collaboration with Rasheed Philips of Philip's Barbeque Co.! The beer is a smoked porter featuring dark malts which were specially selected and smoked by Philips Barbeque for this project and select vanilla and cocoa nibs which create a roasty, well rounded, and flavorful porter.

The smell and taste of smoked malt is front and center. The mouth feel is soft, and a little thin for a traditional porter. It is very reminiscent of a flat cola, in fact there is a lingering hint of cola flavor on the finish. Smell is very calm but the smoke is there. This will be perfect with BBQ. It is nice for what it is, a little thin but it is on the heels of being a proper rauchbier.

Tall Dark & Smokey has a thin, cream-colored head and a dark-brown appearance, with reddish highlights. The aroma is of mild smoke and dark bread crust. The flavor is also very mild (or dull, if you will). Tall Dark & Smokey has a thin body and mostly-dry finish. It is good, but somewhat bland.

Pours dark brown with a thick body and moderately foamy head. Aroma is smokey and vanilla, with perhaps a hint of chocolate. Taste is layered, with a vanilla, chocolate, mild smokiness hitting you all at once. The brew is clean and smooth on the tongue with perhaps the porter profile somewhat subdued. Overall, an enjoyable and tasty beer!

Intensely dark brown body, nearly black; nice, dense, light brown head. Nice, sweet, chocolatey smell; Oreo cookies; very little to no smoke presence. The taste mimics the smell; heavy sweetness; vanilla; rich, roasted grain taste; still a lack of smokiness; very minor bitterness. Heavy body; smooth and slick on the palate; nice residual sugar feel; mainly sweet throughout.
The apparent lack of smokiness from the smoked malts is a let down. Too, the sweetness is a bit amped up a tad much. Still, a nice, rich porter for the cooler weather ahead.
Poured at 45 °F; no canning date identified

A: The beer is jet black in color. It poured with a short tan head that quickly died down, leaving a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of chocolate malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has additional notes of smoked malts with bits of roasted malts. Only a slight amount of bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels nearly medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: The flavors of smoked malts accentuate the smell and taste of this beer but aren't overdone.

Brownish black body with two fingers of tan foam. Chocolate, vanilla, roasted malt and light meaty smoke in the nose all very light. Taste is much more smoky than it smells, a rauch porter anyone? Cocoa, vanilla, slight meat, roasted malt, charred wood chips and burnt caramel make up the taste. Where I like the smoke most is the feel, adds a cool dimension to a drier malt body, though thinner. Solid

16oz can into a pint glass. Freshness dating smeared.
Looks good in the glass. Black body, small tan head shrinks to a thick ring and faint covering. Not much lacing.
Light aromas of chocolate and vanilla.
On tasting, no roast on the malt. A touch of smoke. Nice chocolate note, and faint vanilla touch. Strong, smooth taste, not overly sweet.
Mouth just about medium, finish light chocolatey malt. Faint metallic hint right at the end.
Overall, nice balanced beer. Mouth could be a little fuller, but other than that, not bad at all.
