In recent years due to the craft beer boom you notice that even big commercial breweries come out with a "non standard" beer like IPAs, pale ales or stouts etc. Zipfer, a kind of B-grade major company from Austria decided to follow this trend and launched a series (of yet two beers) of craft(y) beers from which I am having the Calypso hopped Pale Ale.
Looks not bad, a bit darker or browner than your average PA. Smells and tastes nice because of the unbeatable Calypso and a well balanced malt base exactly by the book, as an American pale should be - but nothing more.
I believe it was a nice try from such a brewery, proving that they can make a nice pale ale (actually much better than Stiegl with its Columbus) which is alright but I doubt they will seriously venture into craft brewing.
