L- Pale gold, clear, pours with brief 2mm white cap.
S- Mild, and just trad aspects as expected, malts/grains.
T- A bit hoppier/'brighter' than I'd anticipated given it's style, It's broad framework is like a straight-forward good clean 'lager' - but then with added malts as found in the Marzen style.
F- It's very sessionable, well if you lived in Austria and paid local prices! It refreshing whilst also having a decent level to malt, so it's probably a year-around beer too.
O- It's very drinkable. No drama, no kiddy lychee, Mandarin or other whacko ingredients or notes here, trad to the core. The flipside of that is, if you buy this abroad ex-Austria, is it different and good enough to buy as a niche import, ie at added cost? TBH as nice as it is it's probably not doing quite enough to justify me buying it again.
500ml bottle £2.85 BB: 05-2021 Bought from TremblingMadness/York as part of a large pick-your own consignment to London.

A kind of mediocre märzen from Austria. Had much better but much worse than this before. Typical märzen quality but instead of the fruitiness comes a weird dry bitterness. Not bad but nothing special worth to mention. Still much better than most of the Euro Lagers.

Translation for motto is "pure, the best" and refers to where it is brewed, the Kalkalpine village of Murau, "where water and water are still pure and clean." This brew has a large following with the under 30 crowd, so if you're up for a hip evening in Austria, the chances are that this will be one of the few brews to chose from. Its nothing to take home to give to friends, but theres worse beers out there on both sides of the pond.
A strong pour leads to a large and lasting head. Color is an lighter golden with an active carbonation bleeding through. Aroma is heavy in dry grains and a bit nutty. Flavor is the same with a buttery profile that previous reviewers have commented on. Full carbonation leads to welcomed burbs.
I like this beer for lack of a better option when out. Again, its nothing special, but something that goes well with loud music and shouting conversation. On another note, on tap its much better in the taste department and it seems to loose some of those butter and nut characteristic and gain a bit of bitterness to balance out the flavor.

A pillowy and very lacey head tops this straw colored elixir. The aroma up front is MALT MALT MALT. Hints of toasted malt are nice and the sulphury lager quality is also nice. what isnt so nice is the presence of butter. Too much for my liking and probally noticable to the average drinker. The flavor features a soft matliness with a nice hop spiciness. The body is alittle watery for me but the Bier is highly drinkable. Somthing like a watery Pils. Malt complexity is lacking. Easy to drink but not much to anaylise. Never forget which is more important!!! :)

Readily available in a Vienna supermarket, the bottle is the familiar brown half liter variety with a red, white and gold label featuring just the name and the slogan "purely the best." No real ingredient information. Best before 2/7/07, I opened it to honor Austrian National Day on 10/26/06.
Pours a clear very slightly orangish gold under a fairly short-lived one finger white head that cannot muster any lace. The nose is fairly strong of sweet barley. The mouth is light and quite prickly. The malt flavors are a bit lacking for this style, with just a bit of sweet grain in the opening. The hops fare better, coming through fairly strong with a slightly metallic, slightly espresso tone to the bitterness. There's also a touch of corn here. The overriding impression is a fairly decent but far from impressive brew that serves its purpose well in offering a decent quaffer. On the Austrian market, it is one of the better versions of the style.
