Pours and opaque brown-caramel. The head is a slow builder but ends up over two-fingers and a beautiful tan-beige.

The aroma revolves around dark fruit with some mild alchohol too. It's quite one-track, but there's lots of positives heading in the same direction which makes it really quite good.

Roasted malt, caramel and spice are most apparent in the flavour. It's a beautifully sweet and balanced porter that slides down marvelously, with the texture of a fondue fountain chocolate. It finishes with som alchohol warmth and really sets this one up for a perfect desert or dinner beer.

Delightful, and highly recommended. A great porter that's easy to drink.

A - Poured into a over-sized wine glass with a pretty thick 1.5 inch beige head that slowly falls away. Quite a dark brown colour with slight ruby highlights when held up to light.
S - Strong dark fruit aromas. Some light spiced alcohol. Some woody notes.
T - Along the same lines as the smell but also with a chocolate touch.
M - Medium to full bodied with a fairly low carbonation.
D - Nice beer but any more than two in a session would be a bit too much.

This is a dark ruby to black beer that sat under a losely frothed head.
The aroma was understated but there was some burnt grain qualities.
The flavour was subtle and mouth pleasing The burnt grains had no harsh edges or grittiness , soft , a touch sweet.perhaps, which balanced out well.
It was rather watery in the mouth which was its lowest quality , however overall a lovely beer

9%abv. for this bottle, purchased at a little nice offie, Trafalgar Wines, in Brighton. BB 06/04/2008, served chilled in a pint-size weizen glass.

A: very dark brown with caramel hues; the light khaki froth builds up ever so slowly as the beer is poured, but retains a tight and creamy texture for a good while; finely carbonated, not too fizzy.
S: the aroma gives a profound note of oxidised plums, almost alcoholic sour-sweet marinated prunes, and a touch of sour, musty woodiness that immediately strike a difference with any other continental dark beers - even a bit reminiscent of an English old ale or old-tradition Russian Imperial Stout, like Harvey's... At the back, treacles, caramel, coke-like herbal edge, sticky raisins, plus a lively but mild lemony hint of lager beer follow closely at the back.
T: rather oily yet lubricating; thick, fat, but not quite sweet... with plenty of caramelised sugar and roasted malt flavour to entertain the palate, while a mixed aftertaste manifests itself: mild nuttiness, roasty dryness, coffee-flavoured toffee, phenolic+herbal syrup, licorice, and an intensifying hop bitterness in the end... an intriguing flow of almost (weizen-like) shellfishy savoury-sweetness emerges and wanes quietly, lending a nice touch to the overall flavour and adding something to the moderate complexity... The flavour is in fact not overly rich, but nonetheless leaves a fat and oily mouthfeel of dark-fruit syrup at the back. Rounded finish.
M&D: the rich texture is balanced by a mildly-carbonated body and surprisingly well-hidden alcohol, making it taste at most semi-heavy initially and yet very easy to manage after the taste expands on the palate. The more I smell it, the more it reminds me of an old-tradition Russian Porter or Stout for its distinct (yet mild) sour edge. Overall this is a very decent Baltic porter, with a big body somewhat compromising the complexity that IS possible to attain with all the good ingredients. Still, well worth a try!

a: almost black, with maroon tinges around the edes, nice head dissipates to thin veil
s: smell the alcohol & set your expectations, slight porter smells, almost smells like a strong barleywine
t: very strong alcohol taste dominates anything else going on here -- could only get some slight porter-style tastes before thinking this was a brandy
m: medium body, not as thick as it looks, which make it more drinkable, as well as some carbonation
d: if not for the items mentioned under mouthfeel, wouldn't recommend this to anyone as the alcohol is overpowering. wasn't terrible & i do enjoy high gravity beers, but this was too evident
