Poor head production for the style, with a hard pour producing only two fingers of head. Retention is similarly poor. Color is shockingly dark orange. Other than a slight haze, it looks nothing like any Hefe I've ever seen before.

Nose is a bit off the mark, too, with a cola-and-caramel profile more fitting for a Bock. Small amount of banana brings it back to style, and the aroma is pleasant, but again I find this missing the mark for a Hefe. Perhaps a bit of clove and lemon as it warms.

Flavor profile is much more in line with what I expect - shockingly so. It's a really nice Hefe flavor profile, with banana, light citrus, milky wheat, pale dough, light clove, and a touch of honey.

Slick, oily, soft; flat. It's got the creaminess of a Hefe, but not the full body, and the flatness is disappointing.

This is a mixed bag. It's absolutely got potential, as the flavor profile suggests. This can clearly had carbonation issues; correcting those would go a long way toward improving the look and feel - possibly even the aroma. This is the sort of offering that suggests giving this brewery another chance with the style, but as it is, with the beer in my glass, I'm not impressed.

On tap at the brewery.

A: Pours a cloudy/hazed orange color. Darker than is typical of the style. A one finger white head forms and leaves some lace behind.
S: More citrus and lemon fruit up front than the typical banana esters. Though those are still there a little. The rind like fruitiness is the show here, which is enjoyable.
T: That citrus and lemon rind is up front again. Though banana and clove is more apparent than the nose. Yeasty and doughy as well.
M/O: A light to medium body. Could have a bit more heft, even considering the style. Though well carbonated and ultra smooth. This is really easy to drink though. Downed in big gulps. Something I can come back to again and again at the brewery.

Not the perfect Hefe for my tastes, but certainly a good American interpretation. Like everything Lost Forty does, this is solid all around, and something I won't hesitate to drink again when in the area.

L - 1.5 poured into a Hefeweizen glass. Gold body that's darker than typical with a Hefeweizen. Thin white head that disappears quickly
S - 3 lemon, clove, yeast, earthy
T - 3 a lot of lemon, not much banana at all
F - 3 some carbonation, thin coat of mouth
O - 3 this is a typical American Hefeweizen. It's a good beer but it isn't up to par with Germany's hefe's.

Update: From a can with code 05/30 649 and a well rinsed glass i was able to get a longer lasting head. It too fell to a thin layer but not as rapidly as the first one.

From a can (3/22 date), pours to a rich three finger head that falls to a 1 finger head that dispersed to a thin ring--this seems to be an issue with canned hefes -- see my COOP Elevator Wheat review. Cloudy orange-amber. Aroma is delicious and estery, mostly banana bread and a bit of orange and clove. Flavor is nanners up front with a bready, grainy finish. I could drink this all day long in the hot Arkansas (or Oklahoma for that matter) summer straight from the can.

Poured from a can dated 3/22/17. The beer pours a medium tan color with a two-finger light white head and minimal lacing. The smell is tons of banana and more banana with a nice bready note underneath. The taste follows with lots of banana and dark bread. This is like drinking a really nice banana bread. The mouthfeel is medium thick with heavy carbonation. Overall this is a very nice hefe I'd drink again.
