Double Love Honey, our anniversary Doppelbock, is BACK! With notes of toffee, caramel, and raisin on the nose, and rich flavors of plum, fig, and caramel, this full-bodied and robust beer brought home a bronze medal from the World Beer Cup in 2018.

Poured into a Baerlic Belgian-style tulip

P deep chestnut/mahogany with garnet hues around the edges; darker than anticipated; 1f foamy khaki head; looks good
N med nose of honey, molasses, and some earthy buckwheat
T bready malt, subtle earthy buckwheat honey, and some grassiness toward the finish
Mf light-med to med bodied w/ med-high carb (just a bit too much, imo); light prickles on the tip of the tongue, then a rush over the palate
O was hoping for a little more depth in the profile and a more satisfying overall experience w/ this one; with that being said, it's undoubtedly a decent effort and drinks easy for the style; thanks, Russ!

Dopple your pleasure and dopple your love, Lost Forty Brewing rolls out a sweet and savory double bock-styled beer with the additions of honey.

Pouring with a lightly hazy and tawny garnet appearance, Double Love Honey casts a low lying froth but a high rising scent of dark and dried fruit, floral scents, toasted sweetness and savory bread crust. Malty sweet and highlighting the toasted grain flavors, suggestions of molasses, honey and coffee cake come to mind.

As the sweetness broadens across the palate, its toasty flavors reveal aspects of chocolate and coffee with the savory burntness of cracker jacks all wrapped in honey. A low lying bitterness adds a peppery woods character for a slim offset for balance ahead of a finish of brandy-like fruits of plum, date, fig and raisin.

Full bodied and trending bittersweet, the alcohol adds a pep of bandy-like warmth that’s deceptively drinkable for such a strong and malt-focused beer.

Nice beer here....loaded with toffee and molasses...figs and dark fruit....caramel and hints of booze...raisins....reminds me of that raisin toast you can get at the Waffle House....tasty tasty stuff....

It's a chilly rainy day here in Little Rock and this hits the spot.. very warming and full...

I liked this one quite a bit

Lots of different flavors poured into this one. The one that is so different in a beer is the amaretto and it is perhaps the most dominant flavor, over honey, toffee, plum, raisin, caramel...any more, I don't know but that is enough. Lighter in color than most darker beers, it's a doppelbock. I enjoyed it, it's unusual. More people should try it.

On tap at the brewery.

A: Pours a dark brown, nearly black color. A small beige head forms and recedes to nothing after a minute. No lace left behind.
S: Honey and dark malts. Molasses and dark fruits. Plums and raisins, a touch of cherries as well.
T: A touch of honey like sweetness up front. Which gives way to lots of malt. Molasses, burnt brown sugars, dark fruits that follow the nose.
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. Becomes a little too syrupy and thick for my tastes, but doesn't ruin anything. A really nice warming sipper.

Not something I could drink a lot of, it gets a little heavy after one. Though all the malt flavors are really good. A nice treat, and warmer for a cold night.

Update December 2020:
I picked up another 4-pack of this at the brewery just before Christmas 2020. This is a re-brew of the original according to their facebook page (Nov 30, 2020). The head retention is better with this one, it is slightly hazier, and the aromas, flavors and mouthfeel are the same.

Original December 2018 Review:
This recipe won Bronze at the 2018 World Beer Cup.
Appearance:
Pours to 2 finger head that gradually falls to practically nothing. Ruby-brown and crystal clear.

Aroma:
Dark bread, dried fruit, no hops. Toffee, honey and figs

Flavor:
Caramelized malts, toasted dark bread, raisins, honey, subtle noble hop flavor and bitterness. Finishes bittersweet and malty. Alcohol is there, but blunted by the malts.

Mouthfeel:
Medium to full body, Low-moderate CO2, no astringency, alcohol burn is appropriate for the ABV.

Overall:
Aside from the lackluster head, this beer delivers the types of flavors as promised. It has the toasted dark bread and easy-going sweetness that is expected for the style. It really comes alive as it warms, I would think this beer exhibits the best flavors closer to cellar temperatures. Lost Forty is a lager-centric outfit and they do not disappoint on this one.

Poured from a can into a tumbler. Appearance is dark brown with some jewel tone ruby highlights. No head, no lacing. Smell is malt and chocolate. Taste follows with some bark and maple. Medium mouthfeel, brighter than I would expect, but full bodied. Overall lovely.

Received from @jdell15 in NBS BIF #9. Reviewed 5/1/19. Thanks Jacob!
Undated, but the bottom is stamped “BATCH BEST” and any numbers are illegible. Stored at 42 degrees and served at 60 degrees in a hand washed and dried Jester King snifter.
Appearance – 3.5.
Body – Brown, clear. When held to the light, garnet.
Head – Large (Maximum six cm, aggressive center pour), tan, medium density, fizzy, gone in a few seconds leaving a one to two mm ring of tiny bubbles and no cap.
Lacing – None.
First pour – Medium amber, clear.
Aroma – 4.25 - Sweet, malty, almonds, toffee.
Flavor – 4.25 - Begins sweet but not cloying, with the toasted/roasted malt predominating. A bit of honey is noted, but neither almonds nor toffee from the nose. No alcohol (9.5 % ABV), no hops, no dimethylsulfide, no diacetyl. Eventually, some gastric warming occurs.
Palate – 3.5 - Medium, almost creamy, lively carbonation.
Impression and interpretation – 4 - Seems a bit thin and fizzy, which detract from both the appearance and palate, but otherwise a decent doppelbock.

Pours deep tan with minimal head and no lacing.

The smell is lots of dark fruits/raisin and breadiness.

The taste follows with lots of raisin and dough plus burnt caramel.

The mouthfeel is medium/low carbonation and medium body.

Overall a decent beer, better than the single version.

Pours a very dark brown that shows a transparent bloody, ruby red when held against the light. Head is a finger in height, off-white in color, and features decent retention. Aroma is soft and sweet honey and toffee layered over bready, nutty, earthy, caramely malts and herbal hops. Flavor profile is caramel, bready, nutty malts with light herbal hops. Honey adds a kiss of sweetness and mingles well with notes of caramel and toffee. Despite a few sugary notes, it never comes off as super sweet, instead retaining a hearty and dark balance. Mouth feel is very soft, with very little carbonation or fuzziness. It borders on a velvety texture, but falls just a little short. It has a medium thickness. Overall, big malt notes with a nice kiss of sweetness via the honey. Well balanced and tasty.

Served in a 15.5oz Spiegalau tulip from a 12oz can.

Pours an efffervescent brown with a thumb of tan head. Not much head retention or lacing

S: Bready, doughy, pears, figs

T: Follows the nose, some brown bread & toastyness as well up front, along with woody hop dryness, some leafy hop as well. Breadynes/cakeyness, a touch of booze warmth & more leafy hops once warmed up. Finishes cakey, dry, a little warming

MF: Medium body, restrained carbonation

A pretty solid Dopple, not great, but well worth a try
