Lost Forty Brewing

Opened a 2022 bottle that has been sitting in my fridge for a few years. The Brett caused some foaming, but that’s to be expected. I’ve had this beer when it’s young and it was decent, but this is aged to perfection. It pours a dark almost opaque brown with a beautiful dark tan head. Lots of dried stone fruit on the palate, but with a light floral sweetness to balance the tartness that I didn’t expect. A slight bit of oxidation (not sure how because it was capped) adds to the flavor profile and a fine carbonation that fits it perfectly. truly one of the best beers I’ve had in a while.

 

I think this beer is seriously underrated, but I love this beer type - a dark wild ale. This is excellent, reminds me of Jester King’s Black Metal, one of my favorites.

I had the pleasure of drinking this beer on tap at the brewery and from a bottle. At home I poured this beer into a tulip glass. Rich dark brown color with excellent head and lacing. Smell and taste of a rich red wine. Dark cherries, plums, dates and sweet chocolate. Tart and earthy.

Wish I had purchased a few more bottles!

 

 

 

Had on tap. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. The idea is crazy, but the brettanomyces souring effect is lost on this clashing of red wine and lactose laden stout. Tastes better than it smells, but still lip curling weird. Somewhat sugary in the feel along with acidic and viscous wood tannins.
