a really pretty delicious barleywine here, one of my favorites from these guys so far. its english for sure, has a yeast profile to it, isnt overly hoppy, and has that kind of malt flavor to it, but its also quite original in its own right. looks the part, slightly hazy amber woody maple color with a short and patchy but lasting white head. nose of english yeast of some kind, maybe the burton, with a lot of bread pudding and brown sugar notes. what i like about the flavor is this cool fruity complex that arises in the middle and lasts through the finish. for me its apricot preserves or peach butter or some sort of spreadable breakfast condiment/essential. it makes this almost morning beer for me, and its an awesome compliment to the rest of the malt flavors swirling around in the full bodied brew. not sure where this fruitiness comes from, and its neat with the normally accompanying sugar not really being there. its delicious really. good carbonation too, i bet this would go well in a bourbon barrel...
