even though this english type amber wasnt all that sweet, i found it a little heavy and hot, my least favorite of the four beers i had here yesterday afternoon for sure. it looks great though, nice nearly two inches of lasting white head and a nice clear bright copper color and good carbonation. like it was fermented a little too warm though, the english yeast loses what makes it good and has a sort of tannic sharpness there. there is also some weight from the grain, not sweetness, just heft, and i think its a poor match for the simple flavors in this brew, a softer cleaner base would have been more flattering for sure. slightly metallic, but i also get a nice rich nutty flavor, some caramelized malt sugars, and enough bitterness to prove theres actually hops in this. there is potential here, but this seems like one of their less inspired designs, and one of their least successful executions. i have not seen this here before i dont think, so maybe its something new they are testing out. if so, try cooling it down a little and backing off the crystal malt just a touch, that would help it considerably in my opinion...
