they are calling this one a tropical ipa, and it is clearly modeled on the east coast trend, its as hazy and murky as can be, but rather than looking creamy and uniquely malty, it just looks gross, like the dregs of an old keg, its really unappealing, why are brewers doing this?! the aroma fortunately saves it, definitely a heavy dry hop, all juiced up and loaded with orange peel and pineapple notes from all the hops, mosaic is likely in here, not sure what else, amarillo possibly, its a little too mucky to tell. the beer feels heavy and gritty on my palate, even before i taste it i sort of dislike the feel, and its heavy in the belly. this lacks the refinement of even the hazy hoppy beer of say a cerebral, who is a step closer to making a good one of these, this is sloppy. the hop flavor is good for the first half of it, but all the turbid elements turn me off, and bitterness comes up late thats way over the top for these tropical flavors they seem to have worked so hard to establish earlier on, they are overtaken. in the end, i pushed through this one, but it was tough by the end, and not something i would order here again. despite the aroma and flavor being successful for the most part, the beer on the whole is in need of some serious cleaning up. this is not on trend, its messy.
