Lunacy Brewing Co. "Comfy Cozy Red Recliner"
Well I couldn't figure out if I liked the name or not, and I'm pretty much in the same boat with the beer itself. It's a hazy deep copper beneath a short head of off-white.
The aroma is like Cherry Coke with a bit of cinnamon added. There's a little bit of Dr. Pepper to it as well but I'm not really sure what's in there. It's curious.
The cherry continues in the flavor, and to keep the soda theme going it's a little like Frank's Black Cherry Wishniak. It's got some caramel and clove to it as well. Again, it's quite curious. There's Belgian yeast character along with the other spices, and yet it's not overly spicy. Nor is it bitter, and yet it's perfectly balanced. It finishes dry, fruity, and delicately spicy.
Although I was unsure of it at first, after three or four sips I came to find it quite charming due to its complexity and unusual character. The main downfall to me is that it's not very well carbonated, but I'm not sure if that's got something to do with how the crowler was filled or not. Or perhaps they kept the carbonation level so that it wouldn't accentuate the spiciness... ? In the end, however, I can live with that and I look forward to giving it another shot. Worth trying.
