Double Rice IPA

Rice can get a bad rap as an adjunct in craft beer because of the fact that Budweiser likes to use it, but we think it can be a part of some really delicious brews. One of our favorite ways to utilize this grain is in a nice juicy IPA. Because rice doesn't have a ton of flavor by itself, it allows us to get the alcohol to where we want it to be, which is obviously on the higher end, while still allowing the hops to really shine. This particular guy has a ton of citra and mosaic hops to create a deliciously drinkable, yet still high octane brew.

Pours almost green/orange in color...like it wasn't ripe. Head kept growing and growing. The effervescence was incredible. Not sure I have ever had a rice IPA before. Very odd and interesting beer.

Pours an opaque hazy ochre producing a huge, to the point of being difficult to pour, white, frothy, lasting head which recedes to a bubbly but dense surface cap and collar ring leaving patches & streaks of lacing on the sides of the glass. Aroma is heavy to tangerine citrus/fruity/tropical, earthy herbal hops with bready and cracker malts. No alcohol detectable. Taste is tangerine, orange, grapefruit, tropical fruit and a faint pine hint; earthy with Pale malt, white bread and cracker/biscuit evident. Little noticable alcohol. Alcohol manifest more as bitterness & spice than warmth. Very well balanced it starts & finishes with a nice balance. Aftertaste is pale malt, tropical fruit, resinous pine & alcohol bitter, lightly astringent. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, VERY smooth, juicy, wet with a slight prickle.

12oz can from 101 Bottles for $2.75 with Lisa at home.

Another terrible beer from NIP.

Not much nose, some mild floral notes. Taste is weird, strawberry mostly.

Medium high carb, too high for style and light body.

No redeeming qualities to this beer.

A: Super hazy yellow in color with a big white head.

S: Citrus and tropical fruit, with a little bit of a caramel flavor in the finish.

T: Big hit of citrus and tropical fruits, and perhaps a touch of stone fruit in the finish.

M: Medium thin in body, with tons of carbonation, making this a super light and crisp version of the style with an uber dry finish.

O: Overall the mouthfeel is killer, the taste is decent.

12 fl. oz. can
Served in a tulip glass

This beer pours amber and hazy. It has golden highlights and is topped with three inches of eggshell head that leaves little lacing.

It has a light citrus aroma that is complimented by hints of tropical fruit and pine.

The taste is citrus with some tropical fruit. There is little to no bitterness.

Medium mouthfeel

This is an easy drinking DIPA.

12 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky off whiteh ead with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lasts. Thick foamy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, white bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, white bread, herbal, and floral/grassy earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, lime, peach, pear, pineapple, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, cracker, white bread, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness balance, and zero lingering hop astringency after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately bready/grainy, and fairly crisp/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 8.2%. Overall this a fantastic DIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the mellowly bitter/drying finish, never aggressive. Citra and Mosaic hops. Extremely juicy, vibrant, and dank hop complexity; nice pale malt backbone, with minimal residual sweetness. Well attenuated from the rice. A highly enjoyable offering as expected, love the hop profile.
