Strawberry Vanilla Berlinerweisse

Everyone loves pastry stouts right now, so we decided to go our own kinda route in that style, and make a pastry sour. Thinking back to flavors we enjoyed as kids, before we ruined our livers, credit, and criminal records and settled on strawberry shortcakes to play with this fun new style. This beer is nice and acidic up front, transitioning into a nice round strawberry flavor backed up with a nice complementary vanilla flavor. This bitch is really good, especially when its hot out, sitting next to a pool, contemplating the bad decisions that you'll make later that day. Enjoy a bunch of them while you can, because they won't last long. So grab a pint or can, drink like you're not gonna be here long, and drink promiscuously friends!

12 fl. oz. can
Served in a sour glass

This beer pours amber with burnt orange highlights and a slight haze. It is topped with a couple inches of off white head that leaves no lacing.

It smells tart and like strawberries and cream.

It tastes like strawberries and cream. It tastes like a dessert, but before it can get too sweet the tartness comes in to cut through the sweetness.

Medium mouthfeel

Strawberry beers are often disappointing. This one is not. I love the smell and flavor. It has a nice amount of tartness to make this a very enjoyable sour beer.

12 ounce can into tulip glass; no can dating, but is a recent release. Pours slightly hazy golden amber/light orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big juicy/tart/tangy strawberries, fruit skin, lemon, lime, green apple, peach, pear, melon, hay, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, bread, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of strawberries, fruity/acidic yeast, vanilla, lactose, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big juicy/tart/tangy strawberries, fruit skin, lemon, lime, green apple, peach, pear, melon, hay, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, bread, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart/tangy strawberries, fruit skin, lemon, lime, green apple, peach, pear, melon, hay, grass, vanilla, cream, wheat, cracker, bread, light pepper/lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of strawberries, fruity/acidic yeast, vanilla, lactose, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness and tangy fruit balance; with zero puckering flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness and tangy fruit. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately creamy/grainy/acidic/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.5%. Overall this is an outstanding fruited Berliner weisse! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of strawberries, fruity/acidic yeast, vanilla, lactose, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modestly acidic/tangy/drying finish, not overly lactic. Awesomely jammy berries and balanced Lacto complexity; nice malt/lactose backing against acidity. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example.
