A lot can happen under the cover of night. Stealth - but not still - covert operations are taking place. Previous loyalties are being abandoned in favour of new traditions. If you pay attention, you won’t be left behind.
Subversion is a big, bold, west coast Imperial IPA. The body is medium-full, so its hop character is truly showcased. This beer will flip you on your head!

650ml bottle, more big-ass BC craft beer goodness heading out (a little bit) East! And, they use the -our spelling in their marketing pap! #lotsalove
This beer pours a slightly hazy, pale golden amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, rather loosely foamy, and generally bubbly off-white head, which leaves some decent D&D type, made-up sudsy continental lace around the glass as it slowly and surely sinks away.
It smells of grainy and crackery caramel malt, that no-longer strange hard water flintiness, underripe generic citrus fruity notes, a further touch of piney and leafy hop astringency, and some hovering metallic booziness. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a still heady wet chalkiness, muddled citric acerbities (orange and white grapefruit, gun to my head), a thankfully restrained dank piney 'joint', and more leafy, weedy (a theme is certainly developing here), and floral green hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate for the shoring up job necessary here, as the come-hither frothiness does just the trick, the body a mercurial medium weight, and sort of smooth, as those hops, they just can't be contained, can they? It finishes off-dry, the unloved caramel malt kind of reasserting itself, amongst the lingering citrusy, piney, and perfumed floral bitters.
Overall, a rather engaging and bang-on version of the style, the West Coast 'big-C' hops really bringing their A-game - that's the takeaway here. Enjoyable, and pleasantly drinkable for those luvvas of the style, such as, I dunno, yours truly? So I'm out - y'all know what I'll be doing for the next half hour or so - woofits be damned!

Very well balanced! Citrusy hops, with a delicious malt backbone to balance out the bitterness. Highly recommended.

Pours a hazy amber of the colour that typically contains insects from 90 million years ago. Thin persistent fine bubbled head, lacing slides off the walls leaving the odd speck.
Aroma reminds me of quality bbq for some reason. "Drink me with a rack of ribs, dude", it implores, but I'm at home, ribless and alone, and no amount of porky lust delivers said ribs to me. Sigh. OK, fine, it suggests apricot brandy courtesy of the booze. I'm not against boozy beers, otherwise, why would I drink it, eh?
A tongue smashing hop mosh pit erupts in my mouth with the first swig, caramel malts beaten down swiftly and relegated to getting baked in the restroom. The mouthful of shampoo bitterness stretches out interminably, but I'm not griping. 85 IBUs that just sit there, contemptuous of your weakness.
Body-wise, this unit is a bit fleshy but hardly corpulent.
B+, if one were in grade school.
