Deviation - Dry Irish Vanilla Stout , 4.5% alc/vol
A classic dry Irish stout with a gentle twist: rich flavours of roasted malts are rounded out with a hint of vanilla. The result is a smooth, easy-drinking stout that is light on toasted flavours but not potential enjoyment.

Opaque dark chocolate brown. Poured a short head that dropped back to a few rafts of tiny bubbles in a few seconds. Too dark to see the carbonation level, but there is very little activity at the surface. Left a thin row of lace dots that would slide back down to the surface.
Rich chocolate malt smell. Faint bread-dough yeast smell. Just a hint of vegetal hops. Swirling the glass kicked up a light horseblanket that blended with the malt. Just a hint of mint at the top of the glass.
Strong chocolate malt flavor, tending a bit towards coffee. Medium-light bitters that associate more with the chocolate malt than with hops. Just a hint of vanilla; I don't think I would have noticed it if it wasn't printed on the label. The aftertaste is a quick burst of stronger bitters and a more clear coffee flavor.
Light tongue tingling. Turns into a coarse foam. Somewhat gummy and oily.
Compared to proper Draught Guinness (from a keg, no further than 15 km from the brewery in Dublin), this has much stronger chocolate as a single note while still tasting much thinner overall. It is closer to Guinness from a can, but still feels thin even with the stronger chocolate. It is much better than the Guinness brewed under license on this side of the world.

Category 12 Brewing 'Deviation' vanilla Irish dry stout @ 4.5% , served from a 4pack of 473 ml cans
A-pour is a dark cola brown from the can to almost black in the glass with a medium size tan head leaving a fine spotty lace along the tulip
S-roasted malts & barley
T-semi sweet start , some smoothness (needs work) bitter coffee finish
MF-ok carbonation , big medium body
Ov-overall something is lacking for an Irish dry stout , vanilla is muted
