Loved this murky IPA in Banff. On draft.

A: Dark-amber hue, clouded like apricot nectar, with 1 finger of off-white head with a nice lacing and retention.

S: Hoppy with pine, lemon, and minty herbal notes against a caramel malt backdrop.

T: Follows smell - good food beer given the minty herbal notes and feel.
The hops are minty, lemongrass, grassy, and pine resin against creamy caramel core. Nice balance.

M: Nice and dry, loved it would easily have had a 2nd, but they had MCAuslan Stout!

Try 6.

BA's listings for Tree Brewing are all screwy--a lot of stuff is listed under a separate entry, for the Tree Brewing Institute. That despite the fact that beers that were unique to the Institute are now being distributed under the standard Tree Brewing label.

Take Hop Head IPA, for example, which is now Hop Head *unfiltered* IPA--a development that started at the Institute but has become the standard IPA offering for Tree.

But anyway.

Pours super murky orange-ish, lots of head with decent retention and lots of lacing. Smells piney, resin-y, cat piss-y, only slight (super bitter) citrus. Malt undertones. Taste presents more on the citrus side, but it's still a very bitter citrus, all rind and pith. Bitter but not unmanageable. Dry but not unbearable.

A solid, if unspectacular IPA. I prefer more juicy citrus, but this is a decent offering and widely available in Western Canada. I ain't mad at it, as the saying goes.

This has become a favourite. If you get a chance to get this fresh on tap at the Kelowna Tree House Brewing Institute it a hearty and memorable craft brew.

In the bottle it is still good, and has a signature flavour for an IPA that is high on IBU but balanced with a malty, sweet flavour.

Well known in British Columbia here in Canada and will hopefully find its way to many places

Fresh and unfiltered at the institute, great stuff.

Note that this is brewed separately from the production brewery (different facility/location). If you didn't get the at the Institute, it should be entered under the main brewery.

Served on-tap in Tree Brewing proprietary glassware at The Wood Restaurant (Canmore, AB).

A: Medium-amber hue, clear, with 1/2-finger of off-white, medium-bubbled head with a nice curtain of delicate lacing around the top of the glass.

S: Hoppy with a combination of pine, lemon, and minty notes and a medium caramel malt contribution. No alcohol and clean on the ester side with no yeast character.

T: Flavor was average-to-above average, mainly due to too much caramel character and an overly minty-lemony hop profile, not detracting from enjoyment, but just not into that next tier. The hops are the front-runner with a lot more minty, lemongrass type of character with a punch of pine resin in there too. Not muddled at all, but I don't think it is the best combo with a relatively heavy-handed medium caramel malt character. No solventy or hot alcohols but warms the belly. Yeast character is not detected and bitterness is medium-high. By no means a bad beer, but the hops don't blend as well with a more hefty caramel malt backbone.

M: Nice and dry, a little overcarbonated with medium body. I wish it was a tad lighter -- not a chore to get through but I was not ordering a second for sure.

O: I enjoyed the beer and I was glad to try it. Things I would love to see them change would be to work the caramel component down a notch and/or do away with the dextrin malts if used and make an adjustment in the hopping (change out Northern Brewer?). A solid beer nonetheless.
