A dark chocolate colored ale with a blend of toasty malt flavors and a dark caramel, this is a malt lovers paradise. Portage Porter's rich flavor can allow you a glimpse into the history of how beer used to taste back in the 1800s.

Recipe reformulated in 2007 by their new head brewer.

A super dark brown in color with a very thin tan head. Aromas of dark chocolate and hazelnuts. Taste begins with some oats, then brown sugar, then coffee, finishing with a tart, slight earthy bitterness. The aftertaste is a bit smokey. Mouthfeel is a bit thin. Overall a decent porter.

served on tap at McGinley's Irish Pub in downtown Anchorage.

appears very dark brown, almost black, with a thin off-white colored head. Aroma and taste are fairly typical for the style - toasted malt, with some hints of chocolate, coffee, and caramel. Flavors are mild though, easy to drink. Carbonation is at a fine medium level, but the body could be thicker.

Overall, a decent porter that I would recommend.

Lighter brown color and medium body, this ale didn't leave much of an impression. Could have used a more bold malt profile and a littel more body.
