Named after the first-discovered eclipsing binary star, Demon Star, our Russian Imperial Stout, is a beer to be respected and adored. Thick, rich, and powerful, Demon Star boasts a complex palate of dark chocolate, roasted coffee, char, and smoke under a warming blanket of viscous malt. Despite humanity’s best efforts, language has not yet evolved to the point to adequately describe all of the intricacies of this delicious beverage.

That gorgeous almost-black of lovely stouts and porters with a good finger or so of soft medium brown head that settles down to a half finger or so and seems content to just remain. Beautiful lacing.
Initial whiff of chocolatey malts with roasty and toasty malts and just a hint of black coffee. The really nice chocolate and coffee notes fade pretty quickly, leaving mostly just the roast, and maybe a bit of bitter astringency that's almost smoky, but this will not be mistaken for a smoke-beer.
Flavour leans in with dry bakers chocolate that is rich and bitter and sits across from some almost pithy bitter with notes of roast as well. It's been a while since I've had a really good big bitter RIS like this and it's really hitting the spot.
Smoothe and really surprisingly dry from the rooter to the tooter with a nice lingering bitter finish. A little more carbonation than my ideal, but not a huge problem.
Overall, this is a pleasant surprise, and something of a throwback to a simpler time. It seems like it's hard to find a good stout that's not barreled or adjuncted all to hell or otherwise altered, and while I can dig on some of those others as well, it's nice to get back to basics from time to time and this is a really enjoyable iteration thereof.

Appearance: Arrives espresso colored with a thin cap; thick clumps of lace
Smell: Dark chocolate and char with a smoky aspect
Taste: Heavily roasted with a charred aspect to the chocolate; smoky, through the middle, with a hint of dark fruit and coffee in the finish
Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation
Overall: A little thin and a bit over-roasted for my palate but I rather enjoyed the beer

The name sounds like a play on Dark Star Oatmeal Stout from Fremont Brewing. It tasted very similar as well. I had it fresh on tap at the brewery. Very nice dark roast flavors, creamy mouthfeel, sneakily conceals the alcohol content. Delicious.
