Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a very dark mahogany brown, appearing nearly opaque black in the glass with a half finger dark khaki head with great retention and nice lacing. Aroma of dark toasted malt, cinnamon, cocoa and bourbon. Flavor is dark toasted malt, chili pepper, cinnamon, cocoa and mild oaky bourbon. Cinnamon and chili finish with long lingering hot pepper. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. Not sure I've ever had a Mexican cake with this flavor, but they do have the Mexican chocolate profile down solid. A little more pepper hotness than I expected, but this is quite reminiscent of the chili spiked versions of the chocolate. Cinnamon and pepper forward, but still tastes balanced until the chili kicks in at the end, but with a pleasant, moderate hot burn. If you like this spicy style of stout, this is a very nice one. Although purchased this year, apparently a 2020 vintage (and still fine).
