neat kettle sour here with plums and lactose. neat to have the plums on their own, not with other fruits, and neat actually to have the lactose too, cream it up, balance the acid, and highlight the fruit, i think its a necessary add, and its tastefully done here. soft pillowy pink to lavender color, some decent body here, high rising white head from the can, no visible particulate either. the nose is tangy but not sharp, the plums have some sweetness of their own it seems but are just generically fruity, plums never seem to have much smell. the lactic souring seems clean, and the grain base seems simple and wheaty, not a whole lot going on here, but in these kettle sours its more about what isnt happening that i appreciate, nothing sweaty or stinky or off, professional. the flavor is solid, the plum is identifiable as such, and there is an almost desserty vanilla hit from the lactose even without it being residually sweet at all. lemony pucker from the bacteria but its drinkable by the pint, the balance between the plum and the sour is great, accenting and complimenting each other at the same time. smooth fluffy body, has to be wheat based, mellow to drink, somewhat delicate overall even, and way better than average in a tricky style that tolerates a lot of mediocre beer. well done.
