Black color. Thin, beige head. Roasted malt, ginger, cinnamon, and coffee in the aroma. Malty, a sweet taste with a lot of spices (especially ginger) and roasted bitterness at the end.

Color of a cola with a light tan head. Leaves no lacing. Nose is cacao and slightly cinnamon. Taste is same as nose, cacao and cinnamon, but none of the ingredients like ginger and orange zest. Nice amount of carbonation.

A lighter shade of brown than most porters with a thick but short lived head. Strong aroma of ginger & orange zest. Flavors: plenty of ginger & orange zest with dark chocolate. Cinnamon & I guess there could be some hazelnuts in there. Nice feel, plenty of carbonation & alcohol. Overall: I don’t think I like ginger in my porters.

a glorious winter porter here, these guys do the dark stuff as well as they do the hops, wow this is great, just like the pumpkin escobar was great. this is done with candied ginger, toasted hazelnuts, cinnamon, and coffee beans. its an amazing collection of flavors, but central to it, is how solid the base porter is, strong and sturdy, very black, and with a high shine, a little something english on the ferment to me, and just a bit of warming alcohol, its spot on and would be great on its own. the mixture of flavors is great though, its not all spices, and both the ginger and the hazelnuts make it unique, let alone both together in the same beer. cinnamon and coffee are both obvious but to me subservient to the others, cinnamon hits with the ginger late, coffee is a vehicle for the hazelnut, which are not just generic nutty but specifically hazelnut, and toasted at that. the ginger is more spicy than the cinnamon, the coffee has a little acidity that cuts the body and speeds the finish up, and the dark roasted grain base supports all of this interplay beautifully. i love the nutty part, it hits with the medium crystal and chocolate malts in the center of this for me, right before the spices and coffee ramp up. very well proportioned and executed, holiday beer on another level. this is majorly drinkable too. i am stoked on prison city right now, especially these festive dark beers. some will call this too robustly flavored, but the fact that its so unique permits the boldness, at least for my money...
