It’s Dark… Dark in the Daytime! A special release in the spirit of the upcoming total lunar eclipse on April 8th, 2024. Its black color and accompanying light tan head was designed to be reminiscent of the eclipse itself. Let this beer warm up slightly to really experience the roast profile & chocolate flavors from the malt. The full body balances out the intriguingly deep, dark flavors with this more aggressive American hop character.

Canned 2025/12/05
Pours a 1 finger brownish creamy foamy head with good retention, plenty of lacing, dark basically black color
Nose brings chocolate, wafer cookie, a touch of baking spices, mild roast and coffee, a touch of smoky char, spicy hops, a little nougat, cocoa powder
Taste brings more of the same, dark chocolate, cocoa, some baking spices, more wafer cookie, an lesser sweet version of malted milk balls, a bit of creamy milk chocolate, fair spicy hops with med bitterness from hops and roast, a bit of coffee and espresso roast, just a touch of a smoky roast, drier but mild sweet finish, lingering spicy hops and a bit of roast
Mouth is med to fuller bod, a bit creamy, med carb, mild smooth alcohol
Overall pretty nice, good dark malts with chocolate, roast, baking spices, good hops as well, bitter roast and spicy hop combo, a nice sipper that is still smooth

On tap at Fattey Beer Company in Rochester, NY.
This one pours a dark black color, with a small head, and lots of lacing.
There’s a lot of roast on the nose of this one, with licorice and dark bitter chocolate.
This is definitely a more old school aggressive stout profile than the newer school softer sweeter profile for stouts. There’s an herbal bitterness from hops and a roasty bitterness from the malt, with a creamy, rich, and bitter chocolate profile. There’s a lot of more bitter flavor profiles on this one, but it’s definitely not too bitter – it remains pretty smooth overall.
This is medium bodied, clean, and creamy, and very drinkable.
I really appreciate a straightforward, no frills, and not too sweet stout in this current era of craft beer.
