Each Friday the 13th, we endeavor to dispel the mysterious fears of the day by brewing this very special ale. Always a unique approach to brewing with 13 ingredients, and released the following Friday the 13th at 13 minutes past the 13th hour.

A firm bitterness compliments the malty background and alcohol sweetness. Enjoy now or age and discover the possibilities.

Produces no head, and only a hint of carbonation in the gem-clear auburn-copper beer. This one seems to shine from within the Teku glass. A faint whisper of a ring forms after the pour is done. A clinging film leaves no legs, while each swirl draws out a flash of fine light beige foam that immediately evaporates.

The malt is rich and sweet, with strong fig and dates. Sherry and floral notes sing early, only to fade into earthy spice. Warmth reveals mild, sweet caramelized sugar.

Given the aroma, the flavors are shockingly mild. Bitterness in modest and sweetness is very light. Fig and charred sugar give way as warmth adds sweetness. The finish is modest, and leaning towards figs.

The perceived alcohol is much lower than anticipated. The body is surprisingly light and the texture has a slick silk sensation against light carbonation.

This one seems to straddle the two Atlantic variants and provides some oxymoronic sensations. It's a fun concept, which I played into by consuming on 13.Jan.2023. The bottle was from batch No. 03132020, so about three years old when sampled. Over all, the potential is here for improvement. And if one is apt to risk life and limb, the experience should be exceptional, more like puffer fish than broccoli, but that is just my opinion.

22 oz bottle, 1/13/2017 batch

Pours a very dark amber , thick khaki colored head. Aroma of medium richness caramel malt and herbal earthiness. Similar taste, nice depth to the flavor - toffee, bready, touch of smoke, mild clove. Good balance of sweetness. Sticky mouthfeel, medium bodied.
