Pours almost black, with very dark auburn highlights that reveal its clarity. One inch of light chestnut foam is tight and fades within five minutes to a thin veil and a thick ring. Lacing leaves a tracing on the AO IIPA glass.
Light roasted malt leads to sweet, fruity aromas. Burnt coffee is ever present in the background.
The flavor is initially bitter with burnt malt, then transitions to deep roasted malt that reveals a sweet underside. Blackberries and espresso coffee are an interesting combination that yields to a long, moderately bitter finish.
This one has a full body and a soft, smooth texture, similar to spandex. The alcohol is as expected, as is the relatively light carbonation. Metallic notes and light astringency hold it back a little.
This foreign export Stout is reminiscent of Lion Stout. I enjoyed it on a mildly hot summer afternoon with brilliant sunshine and low humidity.
