Pours a pitch black coloration with a huge, creamy head. Smell is rather watery and subdued, with only light aromas of roasted, caramel malt, chocolate and coffee coming through. Taste is a lot more intense, with some distinctive roasted malt, coffee and licorice notes, as well as lighter notes of chocolate, tobacco and herbal/spicy hops. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some licorice and tobacco lingering in the aftertaste. Full mouthfeel with a medium/rich body and medium carbonation.
Really doesn't have that much of the advertised smokey character to it, with more of a roasted, tobacco character and strong licorice notes. Also has that slightly watery, hoppy feel to it that I'm getting from a lot of German Stouts/Porters for some reason.
