Pours a cloudy, deep, dark golden amber coloration with a small, foamy head. Smell is dominated by roasted coffee, with lighter notes of caramel malt and citrus/tropical hops. Taste is quite an interesting balance of roasted coffee, biscuity, caramel malt and bitter, piney hops with notes of citrus and tropical fruit: grapefruit, mango, as well as some pine and hints of spices from the coffee, notably cinnamon and coriander. Finishes with a medium bitterness and some roasted coffee and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium bodyand carbonation.
This reminds me a little of a Black IPA with its mixture of roasted and fruity flavors, but is a bit of a different beast with some intense coffee notes and less malt presence than you might expect from a Black IPA, although there is still a definite caramel presence as well. The nose features an intoxicating roasted coffee aroma that mixes just right with the caramel malt and fruity hops while the taste is incredibly well-balanced, making for quite a different, intruiging and very tasty IPA.
